Our Top Ten Favorite Free Things To Do

Updated: May 28, 2022

There is definitely no shortage of things to do in Las Vegas but the great thing is that so many of them are free! Here is a list of our favorite things to do that won't cost you a penny (well, almost!)

10. Located about 10 miles south of the Strip is the art installation Seven Magic Mountains created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. These 30-foot high colorful rocks balanced one upon the next is a bright contrast to the Mojave desert that it sits in. Open daily and completely free, this incredibly instagrammable place is a must! Why not rent a trike and ride there?

9. People sadly believe that Las Vegas has no culture and nothing could be further from the truth. Vegas actually has a thriving arts district, with The Arts Factory as the hub. The entire arts district - an area between the STRAT hotel and West Bonneville St, just west of the Strip - hosts a great First Friday (now going strong for 17 years) where you can stroll amongst pop ups selling works by artists of all genres, nosh on delicacies from food trucks and listen to local musicians. Seriously, check it out!

8. Just across the I-15 freeway is AREA15. Outside, there are a number of large metallic art pieces (very instagrammable) and it's free to enter the complex. Once inside, you are slapped across the face with color, art and a sense you've stepped into another dimension. There's a large supermarket themed attraction called Omega Mart but is that what it really is or is there a whole lot more to discover? You can also zipline, throw an axe, do VR, play golf, shoot pool, drink under Oddwood - a stunningly beautiful digital tree, eat at Todd English's The Beast and more. Outside, in the surrounding buildings you'll find Illuminarium a multi-sensory experience. You'll also find Lost Spirits Distillery, a rum tasting journey mixed with vaudeville style performances in a dark Moroccan style marketplace. There is a ton to experience here and yes, some things do cost money, but there is no harm in visiting and getting lots of bright, colorful selfies for free!

7. Ethel M Chocolates & Botanical Cactus Garden is located in Henderson - about a 20 minute dive from the Strip. You can do a free walking tour through the factory year-round and you may even get to see the chocolatiers in the middle of making some peanut brittle or delicious fillings for the chocolates. In addition, they also have the largest cactus garden in Nevada boasting over 300 varieties of plants on 3 acres of land. Take a stroll through the cacti and succulents that are native to the southwest, Australia and South America.

6. The Container Park, conceived in 2013 by Tony Hsieh is located downtown on the east end of Fremont Street. As you enter, you'll be greeted by a giant fire-shooting praying mantis. This is an outdoor shopping and dining area made entirely out of used shipping containers. In the middle of the complex is a large interactive playground and treehouse, complete with a 33 ft tall slide, perfect for families.

5. Iconic Strip Casino Shows - A number of hotels have free entertainment at the front (or close to the front) of the casinos. You have the Mirage Volcano (which is scheduled to be demolished soon) and The Lake of Dreams at the Wynn Resort, a multimedia experience which brings together puppetry with a spectacular light and sound show. Over at the Venetian, you can walk over the Rialto Bridge ad watch the gondolas glide by.

4. Pinball Hall of Fame located at 4925 Las Vegas Blvd South is a 25,000 sq ft warehouse filled with over 150 classic pinball machines to play. Whilst it is free to enter and look around, if you want to play - you will have to pony up the 25c-$1.00 to play a game. Classics from as early as 1944 are available to play as well as games such as Superman, Star Trek, Playboy and even Game of Thrones! Click the link to see the full list of games. The best part - this is a non-profit, so all proceeds go to charity.

3. Bellagio Hotel is the home of one of the most iconic free attractions in Las Vegas - the Bellagio Fountains. This spectacular choregraphed water feature is nothing short of mesmerizing. With over 1,000 fountains shooting up to 460 feet in the air, whilst dancing to music and lights, this is one free attraction you cant walk by. The show runs at least every 30 minutes from 3pm, but more often during weekends and holidays. Also at the Bellagio are two other free attractions. As you walk through reception, but sure to look up to see the stunning 2,100 sq ft Dale Chihuly art installation called “Fiori di Como,” featuring 2,000 hand blown glass blossoms. Located to the right of reception is The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. This seasonal 14,000 sq ft display showcases live plants, water features, lighting and music to ensure an experience for all senses. And after you have visited the conservatory, be sure to walk around the corner and check out the world's largest chocolate fountain!

2. Fremont Street Experience is the piece de resistance of the downtown area. The free Viva Vision Light show starts at 6pm nightly and runs every hour until 2am. But that's not all - Fremont Street also has free concerts and live entertainment. While there, you can pop into the Golden Nugget and check out the world's largest golden nugget & the pool with its water slide through the shark tank. Head to Binions to grab a picture with $1,000,000 in cash or if history is your thing, check out the artifacts at the Golden Gate Hotel! At Main Street Station, the men's room features a piece of the Berlin Wall and you can head to the newest hotel on Fremont - Circa and see the world's largest sportsbook screen! So very much to see and do here and all this is free!

1. Without question, the most photographed place in Vegas is the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. The sign was designed by Betty Willis in 1959 and stands at 5100 Las Vegas Blvd S., just past Mandalay Bay. The sign embodies Las Vegas - with silver coins and flashing lights. Be prepared to wait in line to get a snap in front of sign!
